PROGRAM NOTE

Concert.a Festival is an initiative of young musicians who set out to celebrate old and new music by women composers - those who lived in times when women were accepted as composers, those who suffered oppression, and those who live nowadays, when it is possible but yet challenging for women to be counted as equal to men in the fields of music composition and conducting.

As part of Concert.a’s annual festival, I was commissioned to prepare a string quartet arrangement for Amy Beach’s beautiful and delicate piano piece ‘Eskimos’, which lends itself very naturally to the medium of the string quartet. The piece consists of four movements - the clip here shows #1 and #2.
